We are pleased to announce the publication in Anaesthesia, of the Obstetric Anaesthetists’ Association and Difficult Airway Society guidelines for the management of difficult and failed tracheal intubation in obstetrics.
Managing the obstetric difficult airway requires unique consideration and skills. Anatomical and physiological changes in pregnancy exacerbate the problem and surgery is often performed with extreme urgency to ensure the wellbeing of a different individual to the patient.
The DAS Guidelines for the management of the airway have served as a beacon light for all anaesthetists across the world, since the release of the intubation guidelines in 2004. The beauty of the guidelines is because of their simplicity, which make them easy to remember and follow. The intubation guidelines, the extubation guidelines and the paediatric guidelines are available for everyone to use for non-profit educational purposes. Please click on the links above to access them.
